Local Surf Life Savers Debut at Paddle-Out

Llanfairfechan, Wales (May 18, 2024):
Clwb Achub Bywyd o’r Mor Llanfairfechan Surf Life Saving Club (LLSLSC) marked a significant milestone this weekend with its first volunteer patrol, supporting the Surfers Against Sewage National Paddle-out protest. The club’s commitment to safety and community shone through as they partnered with Plastic Free Llanfairfechan to ensure a smooth and environmentally responsible event.

Building a Strong Foundation:
This successful patrol demonstrates the dedication of LLSLSC volunteers. Following the well-received Swimsafe sessions run with Ffit Conwy in 2022, the club spent 2023 diligently developing its members’ skills. The qualified lifeguards and trainees who provided crucial support during the paddle-out are a testament to this ongoing commitment.

Expanding the Lifesaving Family: Build valuable life skills, make friends, and have fun! LLSLSC is excited to announce its first open evening on Friday, June 14th. This event welcomes anyone interested in learning more about the club and joining their mission. Surf Life Saving offers a rewarding experience that fosters teamwork, resilience, and fitness, all while enjoying the thrill of the water. Registration is available now on the LLSLSC website at [www.llanfairfechanslsc.org.uk ].

Growing Opportunities: Further strengthening its community focus, LLSLSC is actively expanding its membership to include all ages. The established Senior and Masters sections are joined by a brand-new programme for Nippers (aged 7-13) and Juniors (aged 13-16). This exciting addition provides a pathway for young people to develop valuable lifesaving skills and a passion for water safety.

Roger Pierce, Surf Life Saving Association Wales Regional Rep and Conwy Outdoor Activity Development Officer, applauds the club’s progress:
“It’s fantastic to see the hard work of the volunteers really starting to pay off. The open evening provides a great opportunity for more local people to get involved in supporting their community, and I’m excited to see what comes next as the club expands and grows.”

Giving Back to the Community: The Llanfairfechan Surf Life Saving Club, a charitable organisation founded in 2023 after a local drowning incident, extends deep gratitude to its supporters. The Dwr Anafon Fund and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund played a critical role by providing essential funding during the club’s initial set-up phase. This support directly enables the club to actively participate in community events like the Surfers Against Sewage paddle-out, promoting water safety and giving back to the community they serve. Those interested in learning more about the LLSLSC or becoming a member can visit their website at [ www.llanfairfechanslsc.org.uk ] or attend the upcoming open evening on Friday, June 14th.
