FAQs

What to wear

If you are planning on going in the water, we recommend a wetsuit (ideally long arms/ long legs) – but wear what you have!

We have a limited number of club junior wetsuits that can be borrowed, so please let us know when you book your place.

Please don’t buy one without consulting us. We can sometimes get group discounts or know of second-hand ones.

Footwear

Surf shoes or wetsuit boots are a must for under-16s. If you don’t have any yet, a pair of old trainer will do, but it is hard to swim in these…. For adults, we say it’s optional, but at your own risk… You will find a mixture amongst the club members/ volunteers, with some wearing wetsuit boots and some barefoot.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Yes, we do ask for a minimum of 25m for club membership, but we do know that some children are behind with their swimming skills post-pandemic or may be rapidly approaching this. Please let us know the details on your booking form.

On the day

If you want to get wet, don’t worry if you’ve never swum in the sea or paddled a board! You’ll be taken on your session with a qualified Lifeguard or an experienced club member.

There are also shore-based opportunities including water safety and beach talks or First Aid.

Age

You need to be the minimum age 7 by 31st December 2024.

We don’t have a maximum age, a number of our current members are over 70 and are fit and healthy.

We currently have an established Masters (30+) and Seniors (16-30) section that train together. We are looking to additionally establish both a Nipper (7-13) and a Junior Section (13-16)

Parental Supervision

We request you stay on at the event whilst your child is taking part (maybe have a go yourself?), we want to get to know you as well as your child!  If, for some reason, you are unable to attend and need to appoint someone in loco parentis, please let us know on the booking form.

Disabled participants

We are an inclusive club. Please contact development@llanfairfechanslsc.org.uk to discuss any needs so we can make any reasonable adjustments and work out if this is a good opportunity for you.

More information

If you plan to get wet (particularly if you are bringing children), bring a towel and maybe some spare clothes. There are no changing facilities on site, and we use the public toilets.

Sun hat and sun cream are also important, if the weather is good!
